Deputy Headteacher (Quality of Education)

 Pay range L16 to L21 – £68,399 to 77,194 (depending on experience)

 To commence September 2024

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and aspirational leader to join our senior leadership team as Deputy Headteacher. The post holder will play an integral role in the leadership of the school.

The purpose of this role is to support the strategic leadership and management of the school, creating and maintaining a productive learning environment which is engaging and fulfilling for all pupils and fosters continuous improvement in the quality of education offered by the school.

Key strategic responsibilities of this role include: leading the Quality of Education (designing and evaluating curriculum provision and developing teaching); leading Subject Leader development and coordinating quality assurance processes alongside leading our Middle Leaders Group to continually improve outcomes for pupils and raise the standards of attainment and progress.

 About our School

Malet Lambert is one of the top performing schools in Hull, where our commitment to pastoral care underpins the high expectations that we have of both pupils and staff.  With a long and proud history, dating back to 1932, Malet Lambert was once a grammar school, becoming a comprehensive school in 1968.  We put the needs of individual pupils at the heart of everything we do and we pride ourselves on having high aspirations, ensuring our pupils meet their potential by creating a safe, yet vibrant learning environment, which sees first class teaching and learning every single day.  We are very fortunate to have such a caring, skilled and dedicated set of teachers, support staff and governors here at Malet Lambert; ultimate professionals who are dedicated to the pupils.

2023 saw us retain a ‘Good’ Ofsted grading.  In 2018 we became an Inclusion Quality Mark Flagship School – the only secondary in the region at that time.  As a school, we are dedicated to providing a great teacher in every classroom and are committed to high-quality, collective teacher development.  This helps us to reduce the replication of effort and helps all teachers to thrive in our setting.  We do this by prioritising the continuing development of our staff.  This comes in a variety of forms: professional subject-specific development delivered in department time; INSET days as well as through CPD opportunities across The Education Alliance (TEAL).

 The Education Alliance (TEAL)

Within The Education Alliance Multi Academy Trust, there are lots of opportunities for collaboration and also further opportunities to develop and progress.  As a trust, we are here to make great schools and happier, stronger communities so that people have better lives.  For too long in many schools, staff have been asked to choose between being seen as good at their job and being a good mum, dad, partner, son, daughter or friend. We are doing everything we can to support our staff to balance the demands of their jobs and those at home.

To support this, we:

We have removed the following:

Above all, we recognise that seeking to remove the number of tasks staff undertake will have little effect on improving work/home balance if this happens within a toxic culture.  To support this, we offer training for our leaders to ensure they are able to translate our values into behaviours which are built on the principles of dignity, respect, professionalism and integrity.

As a school, we are immensely proud of our pupils and would welcome the opportunity to meet you and show you around our school community.  If you would like an informal discussion about the role with our Headteacher, or would like to visit us to see what we have to offer, please contact Mollie Poskitt, HR Administrator on 01482 374211 or by email at mollie.poskitt@maletlambert.hull.sch.uk.

The closing date for applications is 9am on Thursday 09 May 2024 and it is anticipated that interviews will be held on Thursday 16 and Friday 17 May 2024.

Malet Lambert is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.  Clearance from the Disclosure and Barring Service is required prior to appointment.

The school’s Strategic Child Protection and Safeguarding Policy can be accessed here and the Education Alliance’s Child Protection Policy can be accessed here.
