My journey from Cover Supervisor

Assistant Headteacher

I started at South Hunsley in 2011 as a Cover Supervisor and enjoyed two years in the role that made me realise that I wanted to teach in the secondary environment. I was supported at this point to gain a place on a schools direct PGCE programme, where I spent a year at Shirebrook Academy and Sheffield Hallam University. I was then fortunate enough to secure a full time Teacher of PE role back at South Hunsley in 2014 which allowed me to re-join Team Teal. Throughout my NQT and RQT years I was supported by middle and senior leaders as well as teaching colleagues on a day-to-day basis. My development was continually supported through the outstanding CPD programme that was on offer whilst also taking part in opportunities outside of the classrooms to build strong relationships with pupils. In my third year as a teacher, I was successful when applying for a House Leader role in the pastoral team at South Hunsley. This was where I became exposed to the incredible skill sets of middle and senior leaders that I worked alongside. This role allowed me to develop skills such as communication with parents, ethical leadership and decision making. My role exposed me to the pastoral care that a school offers and working alongside multi agency workers that gave me a greater understanding of the lives that young people within this area lead. As I gained experience in this role, I was incredibly fortunate to secure of role as Senior House Leader and then Director of Student Support. This once again gave me greater experiences within leadership and personal development of my own career within education. This was the role that enabled me to work closely with colleagues across the trust and forge strong relationships with those that were able to pass on their wide experiences, this is something that has always helped me understand the role of a senior leader in greater depth. In 2022 I was able to secure a position as Assistant Headteacher at South Hunsley School and this was an achievement I will be forever proud of but also eternally grateful for as I know that the support from colleagues, professional development opportunities and situations that I have been exposed to throughout my time within TEAL have been paramount to me gaining my current role. The value that TEAL promotes and holds are ones that I am personally very proud to align myself with and I know that I am in an Multi Academy trust that genuinely wants to build happier, stronger communities so that all of us have better lives.
