TEAL opened as a Multi-Academy Trust in 2015 as a trust of one secondary school and the soon-to-open new Hunsley Primary School. We grew to four schools by 2018 and since then eight more schools have joined our family, so we are now made up of four secondary schools, seven primary schools and an Alternative Provision for key stages 2 to 4. We serve 7,000 young people across East Yorkshire, Hull and York and employ around 1,000 people.

We are deeply committed to delivering genuinely high-quality inclusive education for our communities so that all young people feel they belong and can achieve and thrive in anything they do.

At the heart of this is our intention to ensure we have a great teacher in every classroom every hour of the day. Recruiting, retaining and developing brilliant staff and we are enormously proud of our School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) programme – Yorkshire Wolds Teacher Training. We partner with schools across our region to train new teachers, not only for our schools, but for schools across the region and country.

Our people

The Education Alliance is led by CEO, Jonny Uttley, who is an experienced Headteacher and a National Leader of Education. Ethical leadership is at the heart of everything we do and we believe in the importance of local leadership and governance to keep our schools at the heart of the communities they serve. All our leaders have a strong moral obligation to the success of all our young people and it is through a genuine commitment to team working that we seek to add value to all our schools.

Our History

February 2015 - The Education Alliance Established

South Hunsley School and Sixth Form College supports the setting up of Hunsley Primary, the East Riding’s first Free School.

September 2015 - Hunsley Primary Opens in Temporary Accommodation

Hunsley Primary opens on its temporary site adjacent to South Hunsley School & Sixth Form in Melton.  Work will soon begin on building a new permanent school in nearby Brough.

February 2016 - Malet Lambert Joins

Malet Lambert, an 11-16 school in Hull, joins the trust.

2017 - YWTT Established

Based at South Hunsley School, Yorkshire Wolds Teacher Training is established, offering school-centred initial teacher training (SCITT). The initial YWTT partnership includes 12 primary schools, 9 secondary schools and one allthrough school from across the East Riding of Yorkshire and Hull.

February 2017 - Driffield School and Sixth Form Joins

Driffield School and Sixth Form joins the trust as a sponsored academy.

2018 - Jonny Uttley Appointed CEO

Jonny Uttley is appointed CEO of The Education Alliance, succeeding Chris Abbott OBE.

2019 - Hunsley Primary New Build

Hunsley Primary moves into its brand new building in Brough, East Yorkshire.

April 2019 - The Snaith School Joins

The Snaith School, an 11-16 comprehensive in the East Riding, joins the trust as its forth secondary school.

November 2019 - North Cave CE Primary School Joins

North Cave CE Primary School, the trust’s first Church of England primary school, joins the trust.

May 2022 - TEAL Development Centre Building Complete

Purpose-built training facilities for YWTT are completed, including 4 state of the art classrooms allowing the flexibility to deliver professional studies sessions to either the full cohort or smaller groups.

October 2022 - Howden Junior School Joins

Howden Junior School, for pupils in Key Stage 2 (Years 3-6), joins the trust.

May 2023 - Wilberfoss CE Primary School Joins

Wilberfoss Church of England Primary School joins the trust.

September 2023 - Howden CE Infant School Joins

Howden Church of England Infant School, sited next to Howden Junior School, joins the trust. The school accommodates pupils from Early Years Foundation Stage to Key Stage 1 (Years 1-2).

October 2023 - Naburn CE Primary School Joins

Naburn Church of England Primary School joins the trust as a sponsored academy. The trust’s smallest school serves the village of Naburn, south of York.

December 2023 - The Hub School School Joins

The Hub School joins the trust. Situated in Anlaby, it is a specialist provision for students who have been identified of having Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The school’s second site in Welton is for Key Stage 3 students currently on roll at a mainstream school who are experiencing challenges in their current setting.

March 2024 - Approval for The North Star School

TEAL gets approval to build The North Star School, a Free School with a vision is to foster a restorative, nurturing relational and inclusive environment, creating an atmosphere where pupils can truly flourish and thrive whilst building their resilience, self-confidence and self-esteem.

Pupils from Key Stage 2 through to Key Stage 5 will benefit from a bespoke, evidence-based curriculum.

May 2024 - Beverley Minster CE Primary School Joins

Beverley Minster Church of England Primary School joins the trust.

February 2025 - TEAL 10 Year Anniversary

The Education Alliance Celebrates its 10 Year Anniversary. In that time the trust has grown from a single primary and secondary academy in Melton, East Yorkshire, to one of the leading MATs in the region with 4 secondary academies, 7 primaries and a Specialist SEMH School.

Yorkshire Wolds Teacher Training has grown to include over 70 partnership schools and has trained over 200 new teachers since its inception.
