I always wanted to be a teacher from a very young age and my career started at South Hunsley as Teacher of English in 2009. I absolutely loved this role; it’s such a joy making a difference to the lives of young people and I believe that teaching is the best job there is. I was quickly given responsibility for leading the Key Stage 5 Curriculum and was promoted to Director of English four years later, leading a team of 22 English teachers. As TEAL started to form, I was promoted to the role of Trust Director of English and supported colleagues across all TEAL secondary schools. It was in this role that I first visited Driffield School and instantly felt a connection with the school, staff and students. My first role at Driffield was Assistant Headteacher and within a year I was promoted to the post of Deputy Headteacher for Curriculum and Standards. I became Headteacher of Driffield in 2022.

To be in a position where you can implement your vision and support all staff, which in turn helps approximately 1,400 students, is amazing and one I love. We have a great staff body who all work together as one team to do the very best for our students and thanks to being part of TEAL, staff retention is excellent; there are opportunities for collaboration, promotion and development within both the school and the wider trust.

I am extremely passionate about improving the life chances of young people and, even though Driffield has seen great improvement over the last few years, I am dedicated to improving it even further. I strongly believe that all students should have access to a great education and I want the students at Driffield to leave with the best possible outcomes, a wide range of memorable experiences and an abundance of positive memories. I feel lucky to work in TEAL as the collaboration I have with other Headteachers, and the support we receive from the central team, only improves our chances of implementing our vision successfully.
